What’s in a Name? The Story and Meaning Behind SymmFit and Pegasus Physio – Built on Rider Biomechanics, Posture, and Alignment

When you’re building something from scratch- especially something as personal as a brand that reflects your work, your beliefs, and your personality- you want the name to actually mean something. Not just a label, but a reflection of what you’re about, what you stand for, and how you help others.

That’s how SymmFit and Pegasus Physio were born- names rooted in rider biomechanics, alignment, posture, and movement.

Why SymmFit?

The name SymmFit came together from two places.

First, Symms is my new married surname. It felt right to have something of me in the name… but TaylorFit just didn’t fit the bill so I couldn't use my maiden name annoyingly! While SymmFit is a kind of tailored fit in many ways, that’s not what I was going for 😄. That said, it’s quite normal for a brand to carry a bit of the founder in its name. Think of Adidas (from founder Adi Dassler), Ford (Henry Ford) or Burt’s Bees .

More importantly, it’s a play on the word symmetry- and that’s no coincidence.

In the physio and biomechanics world, symmetry plays a huge role in how well a rider can move with the horse. From shoulder level and pelvic alignment to weight distribution and posture in the saddle, small imbalances show up in all kinds of ways. And if we don’t know they’re there, they can affect how we ride, how our horse responds, and even how we feel in our own bodies.

So SymmFit is about training for symmetry- not just in how your body moves, but in how your clothing helps you see it. The lines, panels, and design are there to highlight your postural habits, alignment, and control- making it easier to correct what you can now see.

It’s not about perfection. It’s about becoming more aware, more balanced, and more in control- one ride at a time.

Why Pegasus Physio?

Before the clothing line came to life, my rider physio work had already been running under the name Pegasus Physio for over ten years.

As both a human and equine physio, I wanted something that stood for more than just my name or initials (which many therapists understandably choose). I wanted a name that riders could connect with- something that reflected the goal of balance, awareness, and biomechanics, not just the person behind the scenes.

People often ask why Pegasus?

And the answer is simple: I’ve always loved mythical creatures. I even have a phoenix tattoo, because I love the symbolism of rebirth, resilience, and rising through challenge- something I see echoed in so many riders' journeys, especially those rebuilding confidence or coming back from injury.

Pegasus, the winged horse, felt like the perfect fit for a physio brand built around freedom of movement, connection, and the feeling of flight that comes when you and your horse are truly in sync. It’s powerful, graceful, and otherworldly- just like a well-balanced, aligned rider feels when everything clicks in the saddle.

The name reflects not just the horse, but the aspiration of what riding can feel like when your body is working with your horse, not against it.

The Philosophy Behind the Names

I’ve always believed a name should carry meaning -not just for me, but for the people using it. Some of the world’s most iconic brands do exactly that. Think Nike, named after the Greek goddess of victory; Hermès, after the god of movement and trade; or Phoenix Group, symbolising rebirth and resilience. Even Versace uses Medusa to evoke power and transformation. These names stick because they represent something deeper—and that’s what I wanted for Pegasus Physio and SymmFit. Whether it's the idea of the winged horse in perfect balance and flight, or the pursuit of symmetry and strength through better movement, both names reflect the purpose behind everything I do: helping real riders move better, feel better, and ride with confidence.

Whether it’s SymmFit clothing helping you see and improve your posture and symmetry, or Pegasus Physio sessions breaking down movement patterns and imbalances, the goal behind both names is the same:

  • Make biomechanics clear and accessible

  • Help riders feel better, move better, and ride better

  • Bring a bit of confidence, comfort, and magic back into training

Every rider is different. Every body moves differently. But the principles of balance, alignment, and function apply across all levels and disciplines.
